Description-

  • Suitear An Cléireach in Éirinn agus ar an Mór-Roinn i lár na 17ú haoise, agus mórthimpeall ar eachtra amháin, ach go háirithe, a thiteann amach le linn ionradh Chromail ar Éirinn, nuair a cruinnítear buíon bheag ar thaobh sléibhe agus, in ainneoin an áir atá á bhagairt orthu, ar feadh aon oíche amháin tagann aiteall sa bháisteach, soilsíonn na réaltóga, agus déantar ceiliúradh ar an ealaín is ar aislingí.

Set in mid-17th century Ireland and Continental Europe, the narrative in An Cléireach is triggered by a single event that takes place during the Cromwellian invasion of Ireland, when a small band of the retreating Irishry gather on the side of a mountain and, despite the threat of massacre, for one night the rain lifts, the stars shine, and art and dreams take centre stage.

    DARACH Ó SCOLAÍ

    Brollach

Earrach na bliana 1650 bhíomar sé chéad fear agus trí scór marcach ag máirseáil isteach trí gheata bhaile an Teampaill Mhóir dhúinn, an cornal Ó Flatharta ar ár gceann, bratacha ar foluain agus drumaí á mbualadh. A thúisce i seilbh an bhaile sinn tháinig an chéad mharcach chugainn anoir, fear óg gan hata gan bhearradh ag scairteadh in ard a chinn go raibh Cill Chainnigh i lámha an namhad. Chaitheadar na ?r an samhradh ag daingniú mhúrtha an bhaile, ag ardú na mballaí agus ag gearradh claiseanna thart timpeall orainn, agus sinn ag brostú marcach i ndiaidh a chéile siar thar Sionainn le scéalta an chogaidh. Thiteadar Cluain Meala agus Cathair Dhún Iascaigh. Chailleamar arm an tuaiscirt i Scairbh Sholais. Ghéilleamar Port Láirge.

Naoi lá a chaitheamar faoi thuairteáil na ngunnaí móra sular fhágamar slán leis an Teampall Mór agus d'éalaíomar amach thar mhúrtha an bhaile cheithre chéad fear le garfan na hoíche. Mhalartaíomar piléir ghunnaí leis an namhaid agus, tar éis dianshiúl inar fhágamar ár gcompánaigh sínte feadh an bhealaigh, le chéadshoilsiú an lae thugamar na coillte orainn féin.

    I

    An Raitréat

Ar chreig crochta os cionn na caschoille a chruinníomar, buíon bheag oi?geach is giollaí, hataí leathna fáiscthe anuas ar chloigne cromtha, cruach is leathar ag lonrú faoin ngealach, agus sinn ag labhairt de ghlórtha íslithe. Thoir i mbéal an ghleanna mar a rabhadar an tríú complacht i ngleic fós leis an namhaid bhí an torann lámhaigh imithe i léig, agus ó am go chéile chualamar glórtha sa dorchadas agus ?r mná is easláin á dtreorú tríd an mbogach fearnóige is sailí cois abhann, nó ag dreapadh aníos faoin gcoillearnach coill is caorthainn chun iad féin a shíneadh amach go traochta ar an maolán glas raithní thíos fúinn.

Le m'ais, ardaíodh glór os cionn an mhonabhair chainte, ag moladh go dtabharfadh tine misneach dho na fearaibh agus go dtreoródh sí an chuid eile dhen reisimint chugainn.

Threoródh agus an namhaid, a deir glór eile.

Amhail mar a bhíos an t-uan ag méileach, a deir Seonac Ó hAllúráin i mo chluais, níl a fhios aige an gclois?dh an chaora é nó an mac tíre.

Rinne beirt nó triúr gáirí dóite faoina ndrad agus thit an tost in athuair nó gur labhair an cornal dhe ghlór bog, bealaithe ag tobac is uisce beatha. Tóirse ná tine ná lastar, a deir sé, ach bíodh an uile dhuine faoi airm agus ullamh chun bóthair roimh bhreacadh an lae.

D'fhanadar na hoi?gigh go gcloisidís an raibh aon aguisín le cur leis sin, agus nuair nár labhair an cornal in athuairthéaltaíodar leo ina nduine is ina nduine gur fágadh cruth beag déanta an chornail ag breathnú na spéire, agus a dheartháir...
